As many of you know, or not know, Gossip Girl's final episode was aired this last Tuesday. I watched all of season 6 in the past two days. GG was always one of those shows that I tried watching while it was on television, but I would always go back to looking for it online or waiting for Netflix to put up the next season. Although I wasn't shocked by the finale because someone spoiled Gossip Girl's identity via Twitter, I am finally free from GG's grasp! When I get into shows, I GET INTO SHOWS. I hate surprises and so I have to know what's going to happen in the next episode right away. I have honestly spent full days watching TV shows on Netflix or the internet just to finish a season. I know I am not alone here.
This clip from Portlandia is my life in a nutshell:
Final remark: Go get hooked on Portlandia. Trust me on this one.
Hi guys. I've been kind of MIA for like a week or two (?). Sorry about that. I can't even lie and say I've been busy cause all I've really been doing was not do homework and watch movies that make me cry with my mom (I've watched You Got Mail enough times to reenact it). Also, the 25 Days of Christmas movie special on ABC started! Ahh, I love holiday movies. Here's a list of my favorites:
Love Actually: From unrequited love to first love, Love Actually follow's different people on their quest for love during the holidays. Just like Valentine's Day and New Year's Eve, every person is connected. It's a romantic comedy that everyone has to watch because you can relate to one or more of the stories. I love this movie. *WARNING: there are nude scenes*
Elf: WILL FERRELL IS A GIANT ELF. "You sit on a throne of lies!"Enough said.
The Nightmare Before Christmas: This was my childhood, the songs are super catchy, and it's my two favorite holidays, Halloween and Christmas, put together into one holiday. Tim Burton is great.
Edward Scissorhands: This isn't really considered a holiday movie, but the ending is so Christmas-y and dark. Especially the part where Edward (Johnny Depp) is making the ice sculpture and it's "snowing" and Kim (Winona Ryder) is spinning in the snow in her white dress and there's an eerie song playing. That part gives me goosebumps and makes me feel all warm inside. I don't know why. It's beautiful.
The Grinch: This is a classic. I have to watch this every year.
Home Alone: Another classic. Plus, I love movies that are filmed in New York during the Holidays.
Jingle All the Way: I don't know what's funnier: Arnold Schwarzenegger's acting or his facial expressions? The storyline is pretty decent. A boy wants a sold out toy for christmas and his dad (Schwarzenegger) forgot to buy it so Dad goes on a shopping spree the day of Christmas Eve. He goes to hell and back for that toy, but I can't help but laugh throughout the whole thing. Sorry Terminator.
The Polar Express:The Polar Express is a train that picks children up in the middle of the night on Christmas Eve and takes them to the North Pole to visit Santa. To this day, I wish this were true.
Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas: Don't laugh, but I actually really like this movie. My grandma had the video when I was a kid and she still has it to this day. That video has been around. From me to my brother to my cousins and now my youngest cousin has to watch it. It's just a bunch of little Christmas stories with Disney characters in them + there's a scene where there are hippos wearing tutus iceskating in a competition.
Friday After Next: Xmas in the Hood: OKAY. This movie isn't even that funny or good to begin with, but it's full of holiday cheer. What I learned from this movie is that if you live in the hood, Santa won't leave you presents, he'll take them and probably grab a sandwhich too.
It's finally getting cold and you know what that means... time to take out the plaid. Plaid always works and will always work. It was a popular pattern in the 1950s found in dresses and mens suits. It was popular in the 1980s and 1990s either worn for a preppy or grunge look. And it's back again. When I think of plaid, there are three awesome things I remember:
Clueless: This movie is like the Mean Girls of the 1990s. Cher, Dionne, and Tai have so many memorable outfits throughout the movie. Their plaid on plaid ensembles are so cute. I know I'm not the only girl who was wishing they had Cher's virtual closet or went on a date with that god Christian even though he turned out ______.
My So-Called Life: When I started watching this show on Netflix, I was going through a rough time. Just like any teenager, I spent days thinking about my purpose on this earth and never came to any conclusions. I was full of self-loathing, self-pity, and had no idea who I was. That's why I loved this show. Angela (main character) was a mirror image of me. Plus, I really loved the way they dressed. Patterns on patterns on patterns. Another plus is that Jordan Catalano is attractive and the definition of the teenage heartthrob.
GUYS IN KILTS: Any guy that has the courage to wear a skirt is just awesome.
I just really want a plaid skirt right now, but I cant find any affordable ones. Can anyone tell me where I can find one? Thanks.
