Music Spotlight: Nick Waterhouse

I absolutely love this guy. Nick Waterhouse is from Los Angeles, California. He is the producer/singer/song-writer that created the amazing album, Time's All Gone. His look and sound is very Buddy Holly, but he still manages to create his own voice and stand out from the rest. What I love about him is that he has soul -- soul you can feel and see when he plays.  Music is his passion and that can be seen in the quality of his work. His band has consists of a drummer, tambourine/back-up singers, and a sax player that never fails to give me the chills. Time [may be] All Gone for Waterhouse, but I have all the time in the world to listen to him sing and play his guitar.

Vampire Weekend update.

Last year, I found out that one of my favorite bands of all time, Vampire Weekend, was coming out with a new album, LP3. I searched the whole World Wide Web for months looking for any leaked songs and/or track lists. At the end of my quest, all I found were "subliminal"tweets, a video of Ezra Koenig ♡ looking like a god while playing his guitar, and this fanblog that has slowly ruined my sanity. Today, however, while skimming through a magazine of Entertainment Weekly, I stumbled upon a small article. LP3 is a forsure thing, but the release date is TBA. To make this news even more awesome, Vampire Weekend performed a new song on Jimmy Kimmel... last year. How did I not know this?! I blame myself; I never really watch late night TV unless Ryan Gosling is on it. But how could I miss this?! Anyways, I finally saw the performance of, "Unbelievers," and am about to pee my pants of excitement. Here you go!

Something like a Phenomena

After a 4 year hiatus and several solo projects, the Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah's have finally decided to bless their fans with a new album, Mosquito, which will include band members from TV on the Radio, LCD Soundsystem, and others. The band recently performed at the Glass House in Pomona where some very lucky fans were able to get a sneak peek on the surprise that is to come. The album is set to be released on April 15. AHH. What a great way to start the year.

We love you Karen O.

These are a few of my favorite things

My mom got me all of Wes Anderson's films + Squid and The Whale; she knows me so well. There's gonna be a lot of Wes Anderson film and music posts to come. You could see my necklaces, art bag, and pictures in the back. I like that stuff too.

I got a whole pack of these really cool Keith Haring wall stickers at Ikea. woot woot~

So much nail polish and only ten fingers.

And I finally got a record player that I love + The Rapture, The Sound of Music Soundtrack, and The Head and The Heart Vinyl that I had before the record player.

What are you doing New Years Eve?

Quick Question: Since when have people been calling New Years Eve NYE? I thought it meant New York Everyday or something.

Happy new year~

I don't believe the world is ending today, but if it is, why not have a fitting playlist in the background?

This has to be one of the greatest mashups I have ever seen.
  1. I love Summer Camp.
  2. I love Persepolis, both the comic and the movie.
  3. The song fits perfectly with what's going on in the movie.
  4. I love this song.
  5. I can't say I love this enough.
Good job, Sarahi~

Music Spotlight: Thee Commons

Hi guys. For the first Music Spotlight I decided to go with a band that isn't so well-known, Thee Commons. This band is freaking awesome. A couple months ago, I went to the Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach where Thee Commons were playing a live show. Even though I didnt get to hear their whole set, I went home and looked them up on Youtube. Their music reminds me so much of the Count Five: the catchy lyrics, the twang of the guitar, the powerful drums. It's dance inducing music. I always say that music was way better back then, but Thee Commons proved me wrong. They're producing 60s garage rock in 2012 and because of that I am forever thankful.

Lana Del Rey / Requiem for a Dream / Bob's Burgers

Music:
Track List (in order of my favorites):
1. American
2. Yayo
3. Gods and Monsters
4. Ride
5. Bel Air
6. Blue Velvet
7. Body Electric
8. Cola
Lana Del Rey's new album, Paradise, came out and of course I had to get my hands on it. I have listened to it so many times that my parents know the words to some of the songs. Just like in her Born to Die album, Lana's voice reaches my soul and opens up my innermost dark thoughts. There is a mystifying effect to it that pulls you in and once you're in, it's hard to get out; like an addiction.  Although the title is Paradise, some songs say otherwise. Songs like "Gods and Monsters" and "Yayo" (a song she released when she was formerly known as Lizzy Grant) are dismal and somewhat wicked. While songs like "American" (my favorite) and "Bel Air"refer to the Paradise Lana was seeking.

Movies:

Requiem for a Dream
Requiem for a Dream is insane, but brilliantly executed and so you should watch it. The story revolves around four different characters (all connected) who fall hard into drugs and the lethal effects the drugs have on their bodies and mind. However, it not only addresses drug dependency, but also simple things like addiction to coffee or losing weight. While watching it, I felt as if I was the one going insane because of the different camera/sound effects used. The film is brutally honest and when you think that things are going to get better, they go from bad to worse. Just watch it okay? Ellen Burstyn is amazing. Jared Leto is cute. I never realized how pretty Jennifer Connelly was. Marlon Wayans finally has serious part in a movie. Requiem kept my mind active throughout the whole film just anticipating what was going to happen next. If that's not enough, I hope the preview convinces you.

TV:
Tina from Bob's Burgers
The show, Bob's Burgers, is about a family who owns a burger joint and their struggle to fit in to society. At the same time, though, it doesn't seem like they want to fit in. They are a strange family, but how they act in public is how a lot of families act in private (mines mines mines). I am in love with this show. It's hilarious, but in a not in your face way. Also, I love Tina; I relate to her so much. I think we all have a Tina inside of us: awkward, weird, full of angst. Tina is every teenage girl in the world. Well, almost every. The first season is streaming on Netflix right now so if you wanna waste time and not do what you're supposed to, watch Bob's Burgers. Actually, It would be more of an investment of time than a waste of time.

Bloggin

Hi. My name is Fatima Jimenez, 17.
There are many reasons as to why I am starting this blog:
  • I've always had trouble expressing myself orally. The D I got in my speech class proved that. I just get really nervous and have too many thoughts going on in my head all at once that I end up sounding like a broken record player or say things like, "the cat rain poop tree began giraffe noise." Because of this, writing has become the easiest outlet for my thoughts.
  • I like music and fashion and art and books and movies. I think a lot of people do actually. So I said to myself, "Wouldn't it be cool major if I wrote about things I like and other people like too?" (I watched Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century the other day and the slang stuck to me)
  • and lastly, I don't really have anything better to do other than watching movies and go to school, my life is pretty lame.
Even if I don't succeed as a blogger, I'll be kinda happy with myself because I finally got the guts to start a blog in the first place.
